About Rick & Pat Howard, Owners of Sklar Furnishings:In 2002, after a successful career in furniture manufacturing in Canada and the United States, Rick and Pat Howard chose to continue their love of design by moving to Boca Raton to open Sklar Furnishings. Their goal was to create a new model for a retail furniture and interior design showroom. Active in the community since the inception of the business they continue to participate with their involvement in many not for profit organizations and boards.
Proud parents of two grown sons and two small granddaughters spending time with family remains a priority. They both enjoy an active lifestyle which includes diving, boating, rollerblading, golf, biking, skiing and hiking.
About Dick Pollock, President & CEO, YMCA South Palm Beach County:Richard Pollock has served as President & CEO of the YMCA of South Palm Beach County since December of 2006. Prior to his appointment he filled the role of chief executive officer of the Community YMCA in Red Bank, NJ. Pollock Has 40 years of experience with the YMCA, having also served as COO and Senior Vice President of the Capital District YMCA in Albany, NY, CEO and Executive Director of the Plattsburgh YMCA in Upstate New York, and director of the YMCA Conference Center Peniel-by Galilee in Tiberias, Israel. His first experience at the YMCA was as a summer counselor at Camp Fitch in Springfield, PA and later as Youth Director of the Youngst own,OH YMCA.
A graduate of numerous YMCA leadership training programs and int ernational leadership institutes, Pollock earned a bachelor's degree in history and education at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio and has completed graduate work at the Springfield College Institute for Executives of Non- profit Organizations in Springfield, MA. The YMCA of South Palm Beach County operates two main family centers in Boca Raton and inBoynton Beach. Two other satellite facilities are located in NCCl's corporate headquarters and at the Volen Center. The association serves approximately 2 7 ,000 members and reaches 40,000 people annually through sports, camping, afterschool programs, wellness, aquatics, and community outreach. The Y's purpose is to strengthen community by promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. New initiatives for community impact include diabetes prevention and drowning prevention.
Mr. Pollock's family includes wife, Mary Jo, daughter Shelby Mills who is employed by Glo ria Nilson Realtors in Rumson, NJ, daughter Shenley Girard, who works for the Community YMCA in Red Bank, NJ, her husband Peter and Grandson Jack.
