Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast Receives Grant from State Farm Boynton Beach, FL – On March 14, 2019 Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast will be awarded a Grant check from State Farm Insurance at 10:00am at Crosspointe Elementary School. State Farm® has once again approved the grant for $60,000 to support financial literacy education to Low to Moderate Income students through all 11 JA Florida Chapters and has been a JA supporter since 2011. The donation is part of a relationship between the nonprofit and the Country’s largest insurance provider and will help to further educational components that prepare students with financial literacy and job skills so they are successful. The contribution has been specifically earmarked to support JA’s High School Heroes program. This program gives JA volunteers, which are typically high school juniors and seniors, multiple hours of content mastery, instruction preparation, presentation techniques and classroom management skills that they then apply in a local elementary school. The high school students are selected based on a variety of factors including: commitment, academic performance, class participation, relevant coursework, behavior and a desire to mentor younger students. "We would like to thank State Farm for their continued partnership with JA and supporting the students in our community." said Claudia Kirk Barto, president of Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast. We’ve seen great success with this program and we are excited to grow it even further." The JA High School Heroes program has been in existence for 5 years. Since its inception, over 91% of students who participate have strongly agreed they are more comfortable with public speaking, teamwork skills, and increased knowledge of business and economic concepts. Additionally, students have an improved ability to make informed financial decisions, have a better grasp of our free enterprise system through the life lessons and relevant experience they receive, and are also better prepared to solve problems and think critically.
