Capital One Continues Investment

CAPITAL ONE CONTINUES INVESTMENT IN TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION WITH BOCA RATON YOUTH THROUGH $10,000 GRANT TO PROPEL

Funds will help students master software programs needed in education and the workplace

Boca Raton, Fla. – April 17, 2019 – PROPEL (People Reaching Out to Provide Education & Leadership) was the recent recipient of a $10,000 grant from Capital One, which will be used to help PROPEL youth master computer technology.

The grant, which was awarded in April 2019, is an extension of an initial investment made by Capital One for PROPEL programs. PROPEL CEO Gregg Francis said the second grant was given after regional bank representatives reviewed the progression and results of their after-school curriculum, during a visit on March 22.

In 2018, the first $10,000 grant funded a program called “Elite Techies,” which introduces high school students to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software. The program was extremely impactful since the majority of PROPEL students do not have their own personal computers, but need them for homework, research and job applications. The second award will be used to increase the aptitude of students’ computer skills.

Locally, Capital One also has a team that works with PROPEL students on financial literacy on a bi-weekly basis, teaching them about personal money management.

“Capital One has become a very compassionate partner, helping us educate students on what they need to be successful in life – whether it’s how to use Microsoft Word or how to manage a savings account,” Francis said. “We appreciate them taking a vested interest in our students and being a true corporate neighbor.”
