Florida Players Highlight Field At Walgreens Charity Championship BOSTON, Oct. 9, 2014 – At least 10 members of the LPGA Legends Tour who live in Florida will bring a home-state following to this year’s Walgreens Charity Championship presented by The Seagate Country Club. Set for Nov. 6-9, The Legends Tour tournament will feature 48 LPGA Tour legends competing in a two-day event on the official senior tour of the LPGA. The championship will be hosted by The Seagate Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla. Players with Florida ties include hometown favorites Beth Daniel and Meg Mallon, both of Delray Beach, and native Floridian Laurie Rinker of Stuart. Others living in Florida include: Donna Caponi (Orlando); JoAnne Carner (Palm Beach); Judy Dickinson (Tequesta); Lorie Kane (Orlando); Marilyn Lovander (Gainesville); Nancy Scranton (St. Augustine) and Jan Stephenson (New Port Richey). In addition, eight LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famers have committed to play in the event. Hall of Fame members include: Amy Alcott, Pat Bradley, Donna Caponi, JoAnne Carner, Beth Daniel, Sandra Haynie, Nancy Lopez and Patty Sheehan. Legends Tour Hall of Fame members in the tournament field include Lopez, Jane Blalock and Jan Stephenson. Nancy Scranton of St. Augustine, hopes to defend her title this year at the event’s new venue. The Illinois native won the championship in 2013 when it was staged at The Villages in Central Florida. Stuart’s Laurie Rinker enters the tournament as the tour’s season money leader, but Rosie Jones of Atlanta and Wisconsin’s Sherri Steinhauer hope to unseat Rinker. Jones and Steinhauer could surpass Rinker in season earnings with a win at the Walgreens Charity Championship. Californian Pat Hurst will be making her debut on The Legends Tour in Delray Beach. Hurst is a former Kraft Nabisco Championship winner and member of the U.S. Solheim Cup Team. The field will compete for a purse of $250,000, with the winner taking home a prize of $30,000. A Senior Legends Division within the tournament will be offered for players 63 and over and will include Blalock, Caponi, Dickinson, Haynie, Sally Little and Sandra Palmer. New to the championship this year will be the addition of two national-level senior women amateurs. Playing alongside the professionals will be 2014 U.S. Curtis Cup captain Ellen Port of St. Louis, and Susan Cohn of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Port was the winner of the 2011 and 2013 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, while Cohn was the 2013 Senior Women’s Am runner-up. Tickets are on sale at all Florida Walgreens stores. Patrons can save $5 per ticket by purchasing tickets in advance in more than 260 Walgreens stores located throughout the Sunshine State. Advance tickets are only available at Walgreens stores at $10 per day per adult. Full-price tickets at the gate are $15 each day. Kids under 13 accompanied by an adult and military personnel with IDs will be granted free admission at the main gate on tournament days. Ticket proceeds will support three local charities: The Dan Marino Foundation (DMF), Achievement Centers for Children & Families (ACCF), and Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (ADVA). The event will also support and raise awareness for Seagate’s charity partner, Habitat for Humanity.
