The Creepier Side of Boca Raton BRHSM Presents the “After Hours” Cemetery Tour, Thursday, October 29th, 2015 Boca Raton (August 17, 2015) -- Just in time for Halloween, the Boca Raton Historical Society will present the first ever walking tour of the Boca Raton Cemetery in the “after hours” beginning at 6:30 PM on Thursday, October 29th. Boca Raton’s municipal cemetery, located at 451 SW 4th Avenue, is ironically located on what the pioneers termed “Sunset Hill,” one of the highest points in the city. At the turn of the twentieth century, pioneer farmers maintained groves there. The site is actually the third location of our city cemetery, and some graves have been moved twice. The current site was established ca.1943, however, the oldest interment dates from 1916. In addition, many of the community’s most interesting pioneers (olden and modern day) have their final resting place there. Come learn about the site, the lives and deaths of some of Boca’s pioneers, and “commune with the past.” The first tour begins at 6:30 PM and will involve walking over uneven terrain in the dark. Flashlights welcome! Not suitable for youngsters under 12. Cost is $20.00 per person and $15.00 for BRHS&M members. Space is limited, so advance RSVPs are required!!
