Venture Capital Investments in Three Florida Communities Ranked in Top 100 MSAs in 2015 South Florida Ranked 18th, Orlando 35th, and Tampa 58th BOCA RATON, FLORIDA. According to a report by the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) “venture investors deployed capital to 3,662 companies located in 133 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) in 2015.” The report is based on the MoneyTree™ Report by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), based on data from Thomson Reuters. “Contrary to popular belief you don’t have to be an entrepreneur living in San Francisco, New York or Boston to receive venture capital funding. There are pockets of innovation all across the United States, and as long as you have a groundbreaking idea with high-growth potential you are well positioned to attract venture capital funding to help grow your business,” said Bobby Franklin, President & CEO of NVCA. “As more cities, states and municipalities dedicate greater resources to foster the growth of their local ecosystems, venture investors are taking notice and deploying capital across much larger areas of the country. This not only helps the entrepreneurs themselves but local economies as well through job creation and sustained economic growth.” Robust Venture Capital Investment Ecosystem in South Florida South Florida companies received $301 million from venture investors, ranking 18th based on investment compared to MSAs across the U.S. Investments in South Florida grew at a 20.5 percent compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) during the period 2010-2015, ranking 36th compared to other MSAs across the U.S. Orlando & Tampa MSAs Ranked in the Top 100 Venture capitalists invested $96 million in 8 companies located in the Orlando MSA in 2015, ranking 35th compared to other MSAs. Nine companies in the Tampa Bay MSA received investments of $37 million in 2015, ranking 58th in 2015. Investment in the Orlando and Tampa Bay MSAs had a CAGR of 15 percent and 5 percent respectively during the period 2010-2015. Top MSAs for Venture Capital Investments San Francisco continues its’ long run as the #1 MSA with $21 billion invested in 797 companies in 2015, followed by New York, San Jose, Boston, and Los Angeles MSAs. The top five MSAs accounted for 79 percent of the $55.8 billion invested across the U.S. in 2015.
