The Faulk Center for Counseling will observe Mental Health Awareness Month with a Butterfly Release and ribbon-cutting for its new butterfly garden on Thursday, May 12 at 5:30 p.m. In-kind sponsor Lowe's Boca Raton at State Road 7 and Palmetto Park Road donated products and volunteered staff time to create the Center's new garden. Boca Raton's Promise serves as general sponsor of the event. For over 40 years, the Faulk Center for Counseling has been providing free and low-cost mental health counseling to thousands in the community. Early detection and treatment of mental health problems is essential to an individual's overall health and well-being. Like the transformation of a butterfly representing change, rebirth and renewal, individuals who seek help from the Faulk Center for Counseling learn to think differently, feel healthier and live happier. All proceeds from our event will provide free and low-cost mental health counseling to those less fortunate in our community. One in four adults-approximately 61.5 million Americans-will experience mental illness in a given year. Fifty percent of mental health conditions begin by age 14 and 75% of mental health conditions develop by age 24. The normal personality and behavior changes of adolescence may mimic or mask symptoms of a mental health condition. Early engagement and support are crucial to improving outcomes and increasing the promise of recovery. - National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) "Boca Raton's Promise seeks to help the discovery of and the recovery from mental health conditions in Boca Raton. Introduction of the new butterfly garden is an example of how one more brave initiative by the Faulk Center supports our community," commented Rita Thrasher, President/CEO of Boca Raton's Promise. "We are proud to support this new community project."
