FAU Hosts 45th Annual Honors Convocation BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 15, 2014) - Florida Atlantic University President John Kelly and Interim Provost Gary W. Perry will host the University’s 45th annual Honors Convocation on Wednesday, April 16 at 4 p.m., in the University Theatre within the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The ceremony recognizes the University’s most outstanding students and faculty (a full list of honorees is attached). “Honors Convocation is a longstanding and important tradition,” said Perry. “This ceremony allows us to spotlight the academic excellence of our best faculty and students.” Awards and recognition include eight University scholars; the Distinguished Student award; the University Club Merit awards; the Phi Kappa Phi scholar; the Stan and Renee Wimberly scholar; the Student-Athletes of the Year awards; and the Fraternity and Sorority scholars. Additionally, the FAU Board of Trustees Service Award will be awarded to a community member who has served the University. Faculty honors include the FAU National Alumni Association’s Degree of Difference Award; Researchers and Scholars of the Year awards; as well as teaching and advising awards. Daniel Meeroff, Ph.D., of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, is the recipient of the student-chosen Distinguished Teacher of the Year award, and will present the keynote speech. Meeroff is the founder and director of FAU’s Laboratories for Engineered Environmental Solutions, where he supervises both undergraduate and graduate level in the areas of environmental engineering, water treatment process development, green building, resource conservation, solid and hazardous waste management, and environmental monitoring and surveillance.
