PAHOKEE, FL (January 14, 2025): Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County recently hosted a joint home dedication ceremony, welcoming two Pahokee families into their new Habitat homes. James McNeal and Brenda Willingham-McNeal, proud grandparents, will share their new home with their son and five-year-old granddaughter. Their partnership with Habitat marks a transformative step toward a more secure future for themselves and their family. Meredith Collins, a single mother of three, was inspired by her children to pursue this life-changing opportunity. Her determination to provide a stable environment for her family led her to partner with Habitat, building a safe, affordable home where the family can thrive. This life-changing milestone celebrated the collaboration between the Willingham-McNeal and Collins families, Habitat for Humanity, and a dedicated group of sponsors, including the City of Pahokee, Habitat Housing Solutions, Palm Beach County, and the Palm Beach County Housing Finance Authority. The families worked in partnership with Habitat, dedicating over 300 volunteer hours to constructing their homes and those of their neighbors, while also completing first-time homeownership and financial literacy classes. Upon completion of the Habitat Program, the families purchased their homes through a 30-year, interest-free loan and will pay an affordable mortgage that does not exceed 30% of their monthly household income. This achievement will provide them with more than just a roof over their heads—it will ensure stability, financial security, and the opportunity to build a brighter future for themselves and future generations. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County is a 501©(3) organization and an affiliate of a global nonprofit, Habitat for Humanity International. Our mission is to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Since 1986, we have built 438 new homes, revitalized 765 existing homes, and partnered with over 1,200 households in need of safe, decent, and affordable housing in Palm Beach County. Habitat homeowners apply to qualify for the program, then help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering, and shopping or donating to any of our ReStore-Thrift Store & Donation centers, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To discover more, visit www.habitatgreaterpbc.org and follow us online at @HabitatGPBC.
