CITY OF BOCA RATON RECOGNIZES VETERANS WITH EVENTS FROM MORNING TO NIGHT ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11 NEW THIS YEAR: Free Breakfast for Veterans, Special Medallion Presentation, and Veteran Resource Fair BOCA RATON, FLORIDA (October 29, 2018) – In commemoration of Veterans Day and in recognition of all military personnel who have served this country, the City of Boca Raton will host a Veterans Day Observance “Honoring All Who Served” on Sunday, November 11 with two special events FREE and open to the public, sponsored in part by the Boca Raton Airport Authority. With a new location at Countess de Hoernle Park, 1000 Spanish River Boulevard, in Boca Raton, the morning event will present a more uplifting theme to honor the veterans in attendance. From 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., the Veteran Resource Fair will be open to the public featuring a dozen veteran resource organizations providing veterans and their families with information to both assist with and alleviate common challenges often encountered after military service. Throughout the fair, New York City’s American Bombshells, a modern-day twist on the Andrews Sisters, will entertain those in attendance. A free breakfast, sponsored in part by Too Jay’s, Panera, and Another Broken Egg, with volunteer assistance from the Junior League of Boca Raton, is also being offered for veterans in uniform or presenting military ID. A $5 suggested donation fee for all others wishing to dine will benefit South Palm Beach County Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Build initiative, which will kick off the weekend on Friday, November 9th at Sand Pine Park, offering free home renovations for veterans who apply. The official ceremony, beginning at 9:30 a.m., will involve veteran speakers, including Retired Lt. Col. Melvin Pollock, who spent five years in a prison camp with late Senator John McCain. City officials will also address the audience and present commemorative City medallions to all veterans in attendance in appreciation of their service. A musical processional will be performed by the Highlanders, the Boca Raton Community High School NJROTC, and the Boca Raton Police and Fire Honor Guards, with additional musical performances by the Boca Raton Community High School Band and the Coastmen Chorus. Following the ceremony, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Connected Warriors will be hosting a one-hour Yoga for Veterans session free of charge for those wishing to participate. In the evening, a special concert, “An American Tribute,” will be presented by the Florida Wind Symphony under the direction of Dr. Kyle Prescott at 7 p.m. at the Mizner Park Amphitheater, 590 Plaza Real, in Downtown Boca. Blankets and chairs are welcome at this free concert, and chairs will also be available to rent. There is limited, free parking for Veterans in the lot adjacent to the amphitheater. Food and beverages will be available for purchase inside the venue. No coolers or outside alcoholic beverages permitted. The event is rain or shine.
