Spanish River Library to Host Demonstration for New Voting Equipment BOCA RATON, FL – November 18, 2019 – In partnership with the City of Boca Raton, the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections (SOE) office will host an Open House at the Spanish River Library on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. Anticipating a historic turnout for countywide elections in 2020, the SOE team will be onsite to show participants how to use the new voting equipment, will assist voters with registration, and will provide information about becoming a Poll Worker and the office’s new Adopt-A-Precinct and Vote in Honor of a Veteran Programs. This event is open to the public and will take place from 4 pm–7 pm. The new voting equipment purchased includes 525 touch-screen machines that accommodate hearing and visual impairments, 10 high-speed tabulators that can help speed up recounts and 975 precinct scanners and tabulators for early and Election Day voting. Attendees will have the opportunity to practice using the new ballots and new machines by voting on fun contests. In addition, the Supervisor of Elections office is looking to hire at least 4,000 English and Spanish speaking Poll Workers to work a variety of paid positions during the 2020 elections. According to Susan Saxton, Boca Raton City Clerk, “Poll workers are truly the key to successful elections. This is a great opportunity for our residents to serve their community and to be involved in the election process.” Responsibilities of poll workers include preparing polling locations, greeting voters, verifying registrants and issuing ballots. Poll workers must be registered or pre-registered (16+) to vote in Palm Beach County, be able to read, write and speak English fluently, and attend a Poll Worker training session prior to each election. The Spanish River Library will also be the new location for early voting in Boca Raton.
