Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County Job Opening for Chief Development Officer The mission of Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County is to put God's love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. This affiliate is strategically positioned for continued growth in the communities in which we serve. As part of a multi-year growth strategy, the Board of Directors has authorized the hiring of a Chief Development Officer (CDO). The CDO will be part of the Executive Leadership Team and will help shape a dynamic corporate culture and create a strong organizational and resource development infrastructure including the building of a team of 5 professionals to support a fundraising goal of $4 Million. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CDO is responsible for shaping and elevating funds through the design, initiation, and ongoing implementation of a comprehensive fundraising plan. This fund development plan supports the strategic long range plan by increasing revenues via annual appeals, social media, special projects funding, direct mail, capital funding initiatives, public funds, grants, major gifts and a planned giving program. S/He is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding private sector funds by targeting foundations, corporations, churches, and individuals while supporting related committees and task forces. The CDO creates and oversees branding strategies and enhances favorable attitudes to maximize resource development opportunities. The CDO provides direction, training, leadership and inspiration to a growing team of development and communications staff. With assistance from an outside public relations firm, this position will be responsible for strategy and execution of all branding messages and materials, awareness campaigns and social media and e-mail appeals as well as the website. In order to advance sustainable funding, the CDO will: • Create a comprehensive development infrastructure to include planned giving/endowments, donor cultivation, monitoring and recognition, and establishment of an online donor program. • Develop and implement fundraising and communications strategies as needed. • Develop and implement major gifts cultivation strategies with benchmarks through identification and solicitation of major donors. • Cultivate relationships with local estate planning attorneys, CPAs, and financial professionals. • Oversee all administrative functions including growing a support team in development and communications. • Create and oversee strategies for volunteer development which will ultimately lead to increased donor support from the organizations volunteer pool. • Support/oversee the Board Development Committee, Planned Giving Advisory Council and related committees and task forces. • Provide leadership in all resource and fund development activities, including advisory boards, special events, public relations, grant applications, individual solicitations, and media efforts. • Ensure that the CEO, the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors remain appraised of local, state and national philanthropic opportunities. • Develop and recommend an annual operating budget for all Development and Communications operations.. • Advance Habitat for Humanity’s operational growth strategies to various area markets to benefit Team Builds, retail operations, in-kind contributions, and financial support. Note: It is anticipated that within 90 days of hire, the CDO will prepare a supportive multi-year strategic development plan incorporating growth strategies and projections for each revenue stream. Qualifications: • A proven fundraising professional with the energy, expertise and passion to partner with a fast-paced CEO who is a visionary and dedicated to the ethical fundraising success of this Affiliate. • Proven leadership abilities and strong management and organizational skills in interpersonal communications, fiscal budgeting, collaborative partnering, and executing a sustainable multi-year development plan in support of the Affiliate’s strategic long range plan. • Ability to guide and mentor others to achieve goals. • Proven experience managing multiple people, projects and priorities. • Excellent written and public speaking skills. • Strong attention to detail and follow through. • Knowledge of advanced fundraising techniques. • Ability to work in a rapidly-growing environment in a collaborative effort. • Strong connections in the local business and philanthropic community are a plus. The successful candidate will possess experience working in a comparable environment; have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field (advanced degree preferred); and a minimum of ten years of progressive experience demonstrating a record of accomplishment in philanthropic fundraising with emphasis on major gift development from donors, Board members and community leaders. Preference will be given to CFRE or ACFRE status with experience in capital campaigns and major gifts. Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Salary: Commensurate with experience.
