Water Safety in the Classroom

Water Safety in the Classroom

In the US, drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children ages 4 and younger and the second leading cause of death for children ages 5-14.

These staggering statistics have been in place for too long.

There are many scholarships available that provide free swim lessons to communities at risk of drowning.  I continue to be one of these providers through my swim school Florida Swim School in Boca Raton, Florida.  However, there are still thousands in these communities who will not receive these lessons due to lack of resources such as transportation, communication, and other obstacles.

After extensive research for potential solutions, the conclusion that I reached is that the only place we can reach every child is in school. Therefore, the only solution is to teach every child about water safety in the classroom.

I have created an online course for educators to teach water safety in the classroom for ages 2-14.  Lesson plans and downloadable materials for parents are included in the curriculum.
There is a subsequent course for those who have access to a pool that will teach basic swimming skills in addition to water safety.

The educator can be anyone who takes the course.
A Certificate of Completion will be presented to all who complete the course.
